a)      Road Supervisor

-Farm Tractor Update

Tractor and Cab is in and will be delivered this week as soon as the disc mower is in.

-Seniors Complex Parking Lot Paving Tender

Manholes and valves have to be lifted prior to paving.

-Calcium Update

All the calcium is completed. Next year consider getting all flake and no liquid.

-Discussion on Ministers July 16 Visit

Visit went very well. We accomplished some things, MTO looking at car pool, paving of Watson Rd from patrol yard to Hwy 17 4-lane, Government Rd signage and guard rail request, Findlay Hill-where do we put snow and snowmobile culvert ventilation. Minister committed to a merge lane traveling east from existing Hwy 17 onto new 4-lane, this will be done under a separate contract. Also committed to commencing an Environmental Assessment for an overpass at Hwy 638 and Hwy 17 4-lane intersection. All municipal roadwork requested does fall under her mandate. All municipal roads will be brought back to the same or better condition they were before the construction. We will be receiving a summary letter from Larry Lambert from Thunder Bay MTO and when we receive this we will go from there.

“RESOLVED that we request the dip between the railroad tracks and Hwy 17 4-lane on Watson Road be filled in and compacted prior to Class A paving being done.”

-Snowmobile Culvert- Comments from President of OFSC

Received phone call from president of OFSC stating that the culvert we have is probably one of the best in the province. He is not aware of any snowmobile culverts that have ventilation. Most culverts that go under 4-lanes open up in the median rather than being continuous.

-Cottage Rd Report-GLP Meeting

We met with Jennifer Rose from GLP and she made a commitment that GLP would assist us with the repairs of Cottage Road by purchasing gravel. Contact and arrangements to be made with Road Super.

-Government Road Letter

Received a letter of concern from property owners along Government Road with the sharp corner, lack of signage and speed. This has been forwarded to MTO and Tulloch.

b)     Leisure Services Coordinator

-Playground Equipment Update

No word on installation date yet.

-Summer Programs-Update

Swim Program has been completed with 24 kids participating.

Sports Camp is going on this week with 15 kids registered.

Watermania takes place next week. Registrations going well.

-Remembering the Orangemen Day-July 8 Report

This was an excellent event with 31 people taking part.

Pump passed, Govenor did not.

Fire Chief will be taking 5 units at a time to be serviced at a time in SSM in July

Received report from Kresin Engineer for s/w extension costs. Extremely expensive. Clerk to requests costs for just water. To be discussed further.

j)       Mayors Meeting Thursday July 5, 2007 Report

David Court from ADSAB did a presentation on ODSP which was very informative. A motion is to be sent to all municipalities in support of the Provincial government resuming responsibility for this.

“RESOLVED that we support the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry in requesting the Province to separate the Farmland and Managed Forest component from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund; and establish a separate and distinct Provincial funding Program with 100% reimbursement to municipalities of their annual lost property tax revenue on farmland and managed forest properties.”

12.              Mayor & Councillors Comments

 

Councillor Robbins suggested before seeking funding for an Environmental Assessment for the Boat Launch it needs to be determined which type of Environmental Assessment is required. Clerk to contact Tulloch for advice.

 

Mayor Watson suggested that dolomite be brought in to go on top of the cement slab at the time and temp sign. Rubber border can be put around the base and the stone placed on top.

The trees in front of the Environmental Centre need to be trimmed down to get rid of the dead part and let the new ones grow up from the bottom.
