Mimi and Poly

Hello!

These are my two cats that my husband and I adopted.

The girl that is surrounded by pillows is Mimi.

We adopted her last December 6th.

The guy that likes to lay on my keyboard is Poly.

We adopted him last August 27th.

They have brought a lot of joy to our lives and we hope that other people can open up their hearts to those left behind.

Duke

Hey guys

I adopted Duke back in May. I've had him for 4 months now and figured it was time to send an update.

Duke had a bit of a hard time settling in. He's a very high-anxiety and nervous dog with a bit of a dominance problem. But he's also very thoughtful with a great personality. He's always gentle as a lamb with my 4 year old son, rough and tumble with my boyfriend, and somewhere in the middle with me. He's also fabulous with other dogs, and this has been tested again and again with various dogs owned by various people. Even before he was neutered.

We had our problems along the way of messing in the house, tearing up carpet, pulling on the leash and complete refusal to acknowledge us. High-energy, high-anxiety, and nerves can create a bad combination. Since then he's been neutered, crate-trained, and worked with, and with patience, he's become a good house-dog.

Neutering has calmed down his energy level, crate-training really lowered his anxiety level, and positive reenforcement training has stopped accidents in the house and destructive behaviour.

In the near future we will be seeing a trainer for obedience work. Now that we've corrected the problem behaviour, I'd like to see Duke's very high energy level become more focused.

He's a very happy boy and is doing very well.

A big thank you to the Humane Society staff and volunteers for all their hard work, dedication, and for bringing Duke into our lives

Minou

This is the kitten who you were calling Juniper but now her name is Minou. She is a wonderfull addition to our family because everyone loves her. Getting her seemed to be like a match made in heaven. She took a bit of time to explore our home but now is a happy member of our family. She is the cat or our dreams. She is playful and makes us happy. She also makes us laugh. Everyone likes her and, in return, she loves everyone. She can get a little to frisky sometimes but we love her anyway.

Thank you for giving us a happy member of our family and the best cat money can buy!

Smudge

I'm very happy to see a photo of Smudge and to learn he is a healthy, happy kitty. He looks adorable!

I had intended to adopt Smudge the day Nancy adopted him, but I wanted my daughter to meet him at the shelter and we would take him home together. I left the Humane Society just before closing, secure in the knowledge that it was too late in the day for anyone else to adopt him before I returned. My daughter and I were there the following day when the shelter opened, and I was devastated to learn someone had adopted Smudge minutes after I had left the shelter. I left my contact information with the staff, just in case he should be returned.

A couple of months later, I received a call from the Humane Society indicating they had a small Himalayan cat that looked a great deal like Smudge. Mason was a shy little guy at first but he had a wonderful disposition and he soon came to love his daily grooming sessions. We loved each other dearly, but unfortunately, I lost him to kidney failure two years later. I have since adopted Kali (known as Kendra at the shelter), a skinny little four year old part seal point siamese cat that had survived starvation in a home with dozens of other cats. She's no longer skinny. She's very affectionate, and she loves to cuddle, even with our dogs.

I still think about Smudge, and I've often wondered if he'd found his perfect, forever home. I'm delighted to know that he has. Thank you, Nancy, for sharing the information about Smudge.
