A Rescue Story About Sable Hi, I was on your website and I was reading the various rescue stories. I just had to share our story with you. I adopted Sable, almost 3 years ago from the Midland OSPCA, then she was 1-years old. Sable had been in a shelter since she was 6 months old. She was thrown out of a moving vehicle by her owners and was hit by a car, the impact broke her back leg. She was fortunate enough to have someone take her to a vet and take care of her. She was placed in a Mississauga shelter and after being there for awhile she was transferred up to Midland. I was looking for a new dog, as Rylee, my 2-year old dog, needed a companion while as was at work. I brought Rylee to visit Sable and make sure they would get a long. I left the shelter not knowing if Sable was really what I wanted. Two weeks had past by and I called the shelter to see if Sable was still there, sure enough she was. I made the trip back to Midland and picked up Sable. She jumped into my car, as if she knew she was going home and lied in the back seat and just looked out the window the whole ride home. Sable was very skinny only weighing 56 lbs. and was fighting off a nasty viral infection in her respiratory system. We had to deal with social issues, re-house training her and basic obedience training. Now almost 3 years later, Sable weighing a fit 85 lbs. has started competing in obedience, in the North American Mixed Breed Registry and earned 2 legs towards her Companion Dog title. She also has excelled in agility where she can't wait to get out play on the equipment. Of all my dogs,Sable definitely has proven that mixes and humane society dogs can be just as talented or devoted to their owners as any purebred. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't look at Sable and thank everyone who had a part in saving this dog life. Jen LaPierre and Sable |
