Bear and Jewel

Bear and Jewel, who turned 9 years old July 17, 2005, were rescued from a German Shepherd mill shutdown approximately 5 years ago.

Susan Coutts (near North Bay) writes:

"They are happy and healthy with their old crooked legs and ears !!!! and I've attached a couple of recent pictures - one of all of us out for a walk in the front field, and the other with old Spook and her ball. They are much loved. We celebrated their ninth birthday yesterday, along with their approximately 5 years of liberation.

Bear and Jewel have deformed legs from growing up for 4 years in a cage, were lame after short walks, still have ongoing ear problems, and knew NOTHING. They learned how to play, walk gradually, use stairs at 5 years of age, and are the most loving, sweet dogs imaginable."

Sophie

Sophie's family writes:

"We had adopted Sophie from the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society on July 21, 2005. We spotted her on the Internet. We had to change her name because we already have a pet puppy at our house named Chloe. Sophie likes to play a lot during the night and sleep sometimes for about 4 hours. Sophie likes to eat a lot; she eats all the time."

Max

From the family of Max:

"We adopted Max in May of 2005. He had been returned to the shelter once already so we were a little nervous. We had nothing to worry about. Max has become a member of the family. He loves running around the yard and playing with our 2 children. They enjoy teaching him many new tricks including running up and down our slide. He is extremely intelligent and has been easy to train. We are so glad we have Max in our family."

Buddy

Buddy's new family writes:

"We adopted Buddy in April of this year. He is the most wonderful addition to our family. He is my son's new best "buddy". Buddy is a big dog who needed to lose weight desperately when we adopted him. As well, Buddy is three years old. We took a chance on this big lug because he was so calm and looked at you with the biggest sad eyes I have ever seen.
Well, a few months later, Buddy is now on a diet (he has lost some of the weight) and loves to exercise by running and playing with my son or just going for a walk. We are not sure that Buddy had the easiest life before joining our family, because he is afraid of a lot of things. Buddy had been brought back to the shelter a few times before he came to live with us.

I can tell you....he will not be brought back again. He is the most affectionate, loyal and kind dog I know.

He is truly a member of our family."
