Kali

Kali's new family sent this photo and email about how well she is doing:

"Hi:

We adopted Kali, 8 weeks old on Wednesday February 16th, 2005.

We are so happy with her. She is already trained to go outside; she cries at the door when she needs to go out. She is also sitting on command. She is so playful. She still bites a lot but understands the word "easy".

She is very smart! We Love her!"

Kiisu aka Topaz

This is an update from the family of Kiisu aka Topaz:

"Hi, my name is Laura, and I adopted Topaz. I changed her name to Kiisu, in memory of my first cat - a Siamese/Burmese mix.

She is getting along very well with my other female kitty Static. They play together, groom each other, and cuddle together - very cute!

Thank you to the Humane Society for your assistance with my cat being spayed. She is very happy at home with me, and I'm very happy with her.

The first picture is of Kiisu and my other cat Static enjoying breakfast together. they really are the best of friends! They like to sleep near each other and play together. and both are very happy kitties!

The second picture is where they sleep most of the time. Static used to sleep up top all the time, then Kiisu came and jumped up there one day, so Static jumped into the shelf below! sometimes kiisu is in the middle shelf and static on top!

The third picture is Kiisu, sitting pretty, posing for her picture! She is so adorable!"

Take care!

Laura

Ruby aka Pepper

"I adoptded a dog from the Humane Society in April 2004. She was a 4 month old German Shepherd and Collie mix. I just wanted to give you an update on her.

She is doing great. She had a bad run for her life but she made it!! She is a happy dog on a 43 acre farm to call her own. She runs and plays all day and comes in the farmhouse and sleeps by the fireplace. We put on country and western music for her to sleep by. She is loved so much ..... Just wanted to share this experience about adopting an unwanted animal from the Humane Society."

Bones aka Satin

From the family of Bones aka Satin:

"Here is an update of the kitten we adopted named Satin, one of Velvet's kittens. We have renamed her Bones as she was pretty scrawny when we got her.

I am happy to report that she is doing quite well in her new home. She weighs 6.6 pounds and is quite fluffy! She is a very sweet and cuddly cat and enjoys being brushed and cuddled!"

Ivy and Holly

These girls are giving full attentioin to a squirrel
outside beyond their reach behind the patio doors.

The Unofficial Biography:

"Ivy aka Vitalia, and Holly aka Gina, were adopted in July 2004 from the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society and are both 2 years old.

Piper is a 5 year old who was found in a cardboard box at the Purdy farm outside of Tatamagouche (Nova Scotia) (my sister has Piper’s sister, Katie). Cybil is a 6 year old found under a porch on Maple Avenue, Tatamagouche by Sybil Crawford. Maritimers (even cats) are pretty friendly so the newcomers were accepted without any problems."

April

These photos of Holly and Ivy were taken July 8, 2004 at the shelter. They were adopted at the end of July. The two sisters came to the shelter after being discovered abandoned and fending for themselves in an apartment. They patiently waited more than a month and were fortunate to be adopted together into a home with other feline friends.

Binky

Binky was a shelter resident for
quite awhile - over 2 months.

"I just wanted to send you an update on Binky. We adopted Binky in September 2004 When I went to the Humane Society one day to look at the dogs, I went in and took a peek at the cats and saw Binky laying in his cage. I went up to him and he was lazy, just lifted his head up and meowed and that is when I fell in love with him. Today his family consists of Willow, our 1 year old cat and Mocha our dog. At first he was scared but, in no time, he fit right in. He is the greatest, friendliest cat anyone could ever have. He sleeps sprawled right out beside me in bed. He goes to the cupboard when he is hungry and opens the door, and boy, can he eat! When I sit to relax on the couch he will jump up and lay right on top of me and lay down. My boy has his own personality. When he gets settled, that is his bed and do not move him lol. My company gets a kick out of him because you cannot leave the house without Binky right there waiting to get petted. I'm so glad the Humane Society kept him for awhile, otherwise he would not be with us in our family.

P.S. With all the running around he hasn't shred a pound and his name is still Binky."

Callie and Sam

"My wife and I have adopted two cats from the Humane Society.

We picked up Sam a little more than a year ago. He is the most cuddly and affectionate cat I have ever seen. Last October we adopted Callie (aka Paprika) and she fit right in. Sam and Callie play, lounge and sleep together. They are the nicest cats I have ever known."

Monty

This updated photo of Monty was recently submitted. His original story below was taken from one of the previous Pet Stories.

"I was just reading all the great stories that people have written about their wonderful animals that they got from the Humane Society, and thought that I would include one of my own. As a child we had a Golden Retriever and had adopted a cat from the Humane Society called Riley.

Marlie, the dog was my best friend and Riley was my brother's best friend. I always considered myself a dog lover. When I got older  I had always wanted to get a dog for a personal companion. Long hours and a changing schedule had always gotten in the way of that dream. I had wanted a pet, so I thought why not a cat?  I couldn't imagine that there would ever be a cat that was declawed at the Humane Society (being that I would not declaw a cat) so I gave up. After weeks I saw a Humane Society ad on tv and, low and behold, they had a declawed cat.  Well I rushed down to find out that the cat was gone. They told me that there was another one that was declawed in the back room, so I went to take a look.

So I made my rounds talking to them all and giving them little scratches behind thier ears, until I looked up and right at the end of the room there he was - long haired with a beautifull mane that almost looked like a lion. I thought to myself "what are the chances that he is declawed"? I read the little tag that was on his cage and it said declawed.  I was thrilled and knew that this guy named Sly was the guy for me.

The funny thing is, that this wasn't the cat that I went in to take a look at.  They had told me about one declawed cat that was black, never mentioning that there was another one. I thought it was fate. Well it's been 4 years since I brought him home and my family is now complete. A pale peach and white cat by the name of Monty is now my best friend.

Thanks to all the Humane Society. Without them I would have never found my new best friend. Thanks again and keep up the great work."

Buddy

From Buddy's New Family:

"Things have gone extremely well with Buddy and he's gotten to be a very popular dog with all his friends at Bellevue Park."

This little Pomeranian and Sheltie mix was found wandering around Michipicoten Harbour originally. He was taken in by a caring person who brought him back to health, socialized him, taught him manners, ensured he became neutered and assisted in finding him a loving home in October 2004. He is a happy dog who loves children, adults, cats and other dogs, and is affectionate. Buddy can be seen in the Oct 04 Dog Adoption Gallery.
