Libby and Lexi (now Gracie)

"On June 26th, 2008, I adopted two kittens from the Humane Society. Having had to put my beloved Scooter, my feline friend of thirteen years, down just days before, I went to the humane society only to donate the rest of her food, but fell in love. In a cage was a litter of four kittens, all left in the night deposit. Two black and white, one grey and one black. Although I fell for all four, adopting four, six-week-old kittens was out of the question! Then came the difficult decision of choosing two... Libby and Lexi (now Gracie) were the lucky girls. Libby pounding and crying at the front of the cage, and Gracie huddling in the corner. I thought to myself, "Perfect, their personalities will balance one another, Libby loud, Gracie quiet."

Boy was I wrong. They're both loud. I soon came to the conclusion that Gracie was only quiet because she had been bouncing off her sisters for the previous fifteen hours.

Since adopting "the girls", I have had to throw out four house plants. Either because they continuously knock them over, or mow them like cows mow grass in a field. I tried to put orange peels in the earth to prevent further digging, only to find those same orange peels all over my house the next morning (apparently Gracie thinks they're treats specifically put there for her). I've learned to put the toilet seat lid down, otherwise my cats try to flush one another. A remake of "Finding Nemo"? I'm not sure, but they seem to think it's the only way out. Oh wait, that's a lie...Gracie discovered there is a world beyond these four walls when she ran away from me just days ago and decided to frolic in the snow. Having never touched the frosty stuff before, she didn't seem to mind the cold while on her very quick journey to the neighbour's yard (but mommy sure did while in hot pursuit)! And then there's the patio screen door. They climb to the top like playing a game of tag, the top trim being 'home', and then shimmy across like stunt men from "Spiderman"!

Sometimes I sit and watch them, wondering what came over me, to adopt TWO kittens at the same time. But then Gracie will climb on my shoulder and suckle my ear, like she's been doing since the first day I brought her home, and Libby will flicker her tail with excitement when I say her name, and then I remember...I was crazy. But I still love them!

Not being able to remember life before Scooter, and thus a life without a cat, I was having a difficult time grieving without companionship. Although Libby and Gracie will never be able to fill Scooter's paw prints, they are well on their way of making their own instead!"

Sincerely,
Jenna Huff

Roxy aka Princess

"We adopted Roxy (aka Princess) from the humane society last Nov. 17th, 2007 when she was only 6 1/2 months old. Her previous owners did not have the time for her. She was basically afraid of everything and would not go to any female, just cowered in a corner. She was afraid of people and other dogs on her walks. It will be a year next week since we took her home with us and we have never regretted a day of it. She is a totally different dog and loves people and other dogs. Roxy has a one hour walk every day with her Daddy and is very well behaved. She no longer lunges at strangers and thanks to watching the "Dog Whisperer" on National Geographic she has become a well behaved, calm & submissive dog, is extremely affectionate and won't let us out of her sight. We can't picture our lives without this gentle, beautiful creature."

Dorito now known as Callie

"I adopted Dorito now known as Callie July 24th of 2007, something I have wanted to do since I started volunteering at the Humane Society four years ago. I had originally wanted Dotti but she was long-haired so I decided to take the Calico of the litter. I am glad I chose her because she is sweet, lovable and has a non-stop purr. She is also very playful and funny. She makes me laugh. She greets me and my sister at the door with a sweet meow when we come home. Callie has been a dream come true and I can't imagine my life without her. I have attached some pictures of Callie and my sister's cat Tigger, who is her buddy. I would like to thank all of the staff at the Humane Society who dedicate their lives to helping homeless animals find homes. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have the wonderful cat I have today. I would also like to remind everyone that there are thousands more animals who need loving homes. If you are looking for a new pet drop by your local Humane Society and adopt one of these pets." Thanks, Amanda
