The ArcView GIS short courses have a common
geoscience/natural resources introductory component which can be augmented by exercises
using the client data and focusing on their specific applications and requirements. Examples of course outlines, lecture/lab and shortcourses |
Introduction to ArcView GIS | The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to ArcView GIS, a desktop Geographic Information System (GIS), and to review some of the concepts on which GIS is based, such as database management, map projections, and geodesy. ArcView exercises incorporate the use of geoscience data and are designed to begin at an introductory level (Project 1) and increase to an intermediate/advanced level (Project 5). The course is designed to allow a geologist to incorporated geological data, manage and analyse the information, and produce a map, table or chart to represent the results. |
Advanced ArcView GIS | The purpose of this course is to provide an intermediate level of training in ArcView GIS & Spatial Analyst. The use of spatial analysis for mineral favourability mapping will be reviewed. The training will focus on the use of geophysical and geochemical data sets, starting at an introductory level (Project I) and increase to an intermediate level (Project III). The course is designed to allow a geoscientist to incorporated and spatially analyze geophysical and geochemical data within a desktop-GIS environment (ArcView), and produce a map, table or chart to represent the results. |
GPS/GIS Training | ELIRIS Inc. provides training, directly, or through liaison with colleges and universities (i.e. Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology). Training and educational seminars focus on a hands-on approach which cover the background, use, and capabilities of the Global Positioning System (GPS), Desktop Mapping and Geographic Information Systems, and the integration of these two technologies. Seminars may range from 1 to 5 days and involve a field component. |
